KaiCycle Urban Farm

Based in Newtown. Growing Food for residents via a CSA - Community Supported Agriculture model. Welcomes volunteers.

Compassion Kitchen

A (privately run) garden and community soup kitchen for those in need. Tory Street, Te Aro, Wellington central.

 

The Free Store

A repurposed shipping container with a regular food rescue re-distribution event for those in need. Next to St Peter’s Church on the corner of Ghuznee and Willis streets.

 

Otari Wilton’s Bush

Situated in the Wellington suburb of Wilton, this is the only botanic garden in Aotearoa New Zealand dedicated to native plants. It is home to an 800 year old Rimu tree! With a lovely stream and waterfall to be found as you walk along your choice of forest paths with varying degrees of ease and challenge.

Papa Taiao Earthcare

Secondary School level NCEA certified courses for students seeking to build skills and knowledge in social enterprise with an epic environmental focus. Includes a food-focussed Regenerative Urban Agriculture course based at KaiCycle urban farm.

 

Seeds To Feeds

A suburb-based local food festival with community dinners, cooked by talented local chefs, with support from awesome local growers and volunteers. Lots of great workshops connected to the festival too.

 

Sustainability Trust

Your local environment centre. The staff there run the Food is Free initiative, Fruit Tree Guardians project and Wilderkids school holiday programme. Features a shop and event space, curtain bank, home insulation and advice. Forresters Lane, off Tory Street.

 

Predator Free Wellington

A suburb-wide pest control initiative. Volunteer based, working across community and business to eradicate pests such as rats, stoats and possums that kill native birds and lizards.

 

Manawa Karioi

One of Wellington’s oldest restoration projects. Located in Island Bay on some land that belongs to Tapu Te Ranga Marae.
